World Star – Super Mario 3D World
This is “World Star” from “Super Mario 3D World” developed by Nintendo EAD and 1-UP Studio, published by Nintendo.
Music for this game was composed by Mahito Yokoya(main composer), Koji Kondo, Toru Minegishi, Yasuaki Iwata.
This song is played in the world that is unlocked after you complete the main story and watched the credit roll.
This game was originally released on the Wii U in 2013, but also released on the Switch this year in 2021 with additional content.
The main feature of this game is that up to four people can play together.
This is also the first game in the 3D Mario series, which started with “Super Mario 64″(1996), to allow players to use Luigi and Mario on the same screen.
The first chord progression, bVI-bVII-I, is same as the music played when completing the course in “Super Mario Bros”(1983).
I feel that this progression gives the song a Mario-like feel.
My personal favorite part is the chromatic downward movement in bars 9~11th (0:14~0:18).
The chord progression is I-i-ii, and by using the 1st inverted form, the bass moves f#-f♮-e.
As for playing tips, it is easy to get distracted by the dispersed chords, but I think it is important to extend the notes properly so that the melody is not breaking up.
