K.K. Chorale – Animal Crossing

About game/music

This is “K.K. Chorale” from social simulation game “Animal Crossing”(2002)(official website), developed by Nintendo EAD, published by Nintendo.
This is composed by Toru Minegishi.
He has also composed music for some of the “Legend of Zelda” series and “Splatoon” series.
(Since “K.K” is in the title of the song, at first I thought it was composed by Kazumi Totaka, but it seems not.)

This song is one of ‘K.K. Slider songs’.
This is not the version you can listen to by requesting it from K.K. Slider (とたけけ, Totakeke), but the version you can listen to by registering it on the audio furniture.

As for the TAB, I couldn’t figure out the proper division of bars, so I made a guess based on Bach’s chorale score.
So there may be some weirdness.

Analyzing

It seems to be a four-voice chorale.
I gave priority to fingering and omitted notes in different octaves, assuming that they are supposed to be heard.

  • bar 1~3: The bass goes down a semitone with diminished chords.
  • bar 5~6: The progression III-vi shadows the bright tune and gives a sense of emotional dynamics
  • bar 3, 6, 9, 10: Delayed resolutions. Perhaps because this is used much, I personally get the impression of ‘salvation’.
